Initiatives’ staff supporting the Essential Services for Health in Ethiopia Project:
Shelemo Shawula, M.D., M.P.H., Performance Improvement Advisor
Dr. Shawula serves as Performance Improvement Advisor under the ESHE II Project in Ethiopia. He is responsible for providing leadership to the project in planning, facilitating and implementing performance improvement activities including: supportive supervision, HMIS, integrated training, and capacity-building for regional and Woreda health managers in ESHE’s three focal regions. Together with the ESHE performance improvement team, Dr. Shawula has been working to develop management performance standards and supervisory tools and guidance to help improve the oversight and management of health services in the regions; to improve the capacity of health managers to use health data for planning and decision-making; and to strengthen monitoring of key health service delivery areas, particularly maternal and child health.
Dr. Shawula is a medical doctor and public health professional with experience in health service management, quality assurance, community health promotion, and capacity building in Ethiopia.
