Safe Motherhood
Contributing to the reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity is an important focus of Initiatives' work. We have developed guidance and training tools for the integration of safer motherhood initiatives into NGO programs; designed and implemented a practical, low-cost, program to provide clean delivery kits to pregnant women and traditional birth attendants in rural Zambia; and worked with communities to develop and implement emergency obstetric transportation programs to help women get to qualified service providers.
Our work has also contributed to assessments of HIV/AIDS prevention of mother to child transmission programs (PMTCT), including identification of gaps in quality service provision, service effectiveness, service organization, and human resources management.
