Essential Services for Health in Ethiopia (ESHE II)
The USAID-funded ESHE II project (2004–2008) was part of a broader strategy to improve child health in Ethiopia. As a subcontractor to John Snow, Inc., Initiatives was responsible for the performance improvement component of the project. Our technical support included strengthening supervision and building the management capacity of Regional and Woreda (district) Health Managers to manage health service delivery and plan and coordinate improvements in health service delivery.
Initiatives' resident Performance Improvement Advisor, in conjunction with periodic short-term technical assistance from our home office, guided project activities including the design and implementation of a capacity building strategy in integrated supervision, development and implementation of management standards and capacity building training materials and programs, and establishment of monitoring indicators related to supervision and management effectiveness.
