USAID Health Care Improvement Project (HCI)
A five-year indefinite quantity contract awarded through USAID’s Bureau for Global Health, the Health Care Improvement (HCI) project is working to improve the quality of health care in 17 countries.
Through a subcontract with URC, Initiatives’ work under HCI focuses on quality improvement, operations research, and improvements to systems and process for human resources management and workforce development. Specifically, we are currently working under these three task orders:
A tool for assessing and improving community health worker programs. One of HCI’s workforce development activities is identifying low-cost approaches for sustaining and strengthening community health worker (CHW) performance. With technical assistance from Initiatives’ senior advisor and other specialists, HCI has developed a promising new tool. Learn more.
A community of practice dedicated to community health worker programs and strategies. Initiatives is guiding development of “CHW Central,” an online portal that will enable the sharing of information, best practices, and new research, and build a community of practice for implementers of CHW programs. The portal is set to launch in 2011. Learn more.
Exploring the role of the “expert patient” in HIV/AIDS service delivery. Through this research study, Initiatives is examining the expert patient role in Uganda in the context of task shifting to address the shortages of health workers in countries that face a high HIV burden. Learn more.
